Open Innovation Call in Singapore on climate-resilient and resource-efficient buildings

This Open Innovation Call is closed. The pitch final was held on June 11, 20221 in Singapore. The winner of the Open Innovation Call was Climatec Corp Pte Ltd from Singapore that provides water treatment for cooling tower water without the use of chemicals or power – and INOVUES Inc from the USA that provides an insulating glass retrofit technology that reduces heat gain inside a building.

One of Asia’s biggest developers was looking for solutions for more climate-friendly buildings

The buildings and construction sector consumes 36% of the world's energy and accounts for more than one-third of annual carbon emissions. Therefore, CapitaLand sought ways to design, build and operate their buildings to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, combatting climate change and ensuring the well-being of building occupants and users. They invited companies to share their ground-breaking solutions for waste reduction, energy and water efficiency improvements, and healthy and safe buildings. From 10 November 2020 to 17 February 2021, CapitaLand ran the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge (CSXC) in Singapore to find proposals across the globe to make buildings more climate-resilient and resource-efficient. The two winners of the Open Innovation Call received up to S$50,000 to kickstart a viable pilot, test and implement innovations with CapitaLand.

The Challenge

Participants could join the CSXC by submitting their proposed innovation to address any of the seven challenge statements developed by CapitaLand to meet its global business needs. The seven statements were categorised under the following four themes:

Theme 1: Low carbon transition
Theme 2: Water conservation and resilience
Theme 3: Waste management and the circular economy
Theme 4: Healthy and Safe Buildings
