Challenge Blurb: | The Energy Start-up Bayern-competition is a new initiative to promote innovative start-ups from Germany, Austria or Switzerland with reference to Bavaria’s energy future and to network them directly in the energy sector. The competition is held every two years and took place in 2016 and 2018. The competition is a joint initiative by Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bayern Innovativ GmbH, Zentrum Digitalisierung Bayern (ZD. B), BayStartUp GmbH, Bayernwerk AG, and The Bavarian Energy and Water Management Association (VBEW). |
Challenge Description: | We are looking for new business models and technologies that advance the energy future in Bavaria. This year, the focus is particularly on the topics of digitization, security of supply and hydrogen. In addition, however, we are interested in all concepts that contribute to a safe, affordable and sustainable energy supply and have equal opportunities to win the competition. The Energy Start-Up Bavaria competition is a unique opportunity to sustainably promote the energy transition in Bavaria. In addition to the attractive prize money, you also have the opportunity to easily establish contacts with leading companies in the fields of digitalization and energy, meet investors and benefit from the extensive networks of ZD.B and Bayern Innovativ. The competition is open to start-ups from all subject areas, with equal opportunities for all participants, regardless of the subject area they address. The focus topics should, however, throw a special spotlight on topics that are particularly in focus for Bavaria and for which innovative solutions are needed. The three focus topics in 2020 are digitization, security of supply and hydrogen. The relation to the topic of the energy transition and energy future is important. |

Finalist Announcement: | After the submission deadline is passed, a jury will choose the 10 best start-ups for the half-final. On September 24, three start-ups will be awarded with a spot in the final on October 22. |

Who Can Apply? | For Companies in Germany Austria and Switzerland – Access Cities München is working on having danish companies to be included as well. You may not have been among the TOP 3 of the competition in 2016 or 2018, otherwise you can participate again. Your start-up must have been founded after January 1st, 2016. Your company must already have been founded at the time of application or be in the process of being founded. Your company should focus on the energy sector or deal with digitization, security of supply or hydrogen. General solutions for a safe, affordable and sustainable energy supply are also welcome. |
